And while doing this, the person should keep in mind to never change directions or return to the starting position again. Every step that the person takes should be in a direction that leads the person further ahead from where originally started. If a person is moving and wants to increase the velocity, then that person must see to it that every effort one is taking leads to increase their displacement from their original position. This results in a zero velocity and the motion would never result in a change in position. If a person moves one step forward and rapidly takes one step back and returns to its original position this means that the displacement of that person is zero. Velocity is a vector quantity which indicates the rate at which an object changes its position.
